City of Bones – Trailer #2

I don’t care that I should be working right now.

The trailer for the City of Bones trailer came out around an hour ago and I am TOTALLY TALKING ABOUT IT.

Watch it here. NOW.

So here’s my thought process right now.

As a trailer I don’t think it’s that good. Not the content, just how it got put together. Like the music in the middle, I really don’t like how it switches from the really epic music to the pretty low-key bass, and then back to really tension building, suspenseful music again. A bit random. And some of the cuts between the scenes seemed very… Obvious? I’m not sure, I have no idea how making trailers or movies works, so I might be completely wrong, it just seemed very sewn together.

The content, however, that is a whole other story.

Jamie Campbell Bower, I am so surprised by how Jace-y you seem to me now, because I really did have my doubts. Once I got over the fact that you have a british accent, as I read the books for three years thinking Jace was american, I really liked you. And you seem very dedicated to the books as a fan, so I automatically have to like you.

Lily Collins, still in my mind a perfect Clary, even if she’s not what I envisioned Clary to look like when I was reading the books (I imagined a kind of short, pixie-like girl with very orange toned hair that ended below her chin, though honestly if they’d cast someone looking like the Clary in my head it would never have worked, since she would probably look thirteen). The guy who’s playing Simon off Misfits (I cannot remember his name… Robert Sheehan? According to google…), I am almost sure that he’s going to be a perfect Simon.

I think I like Alec, even if he really is nothing like I imagined him to be. But we still haven’t seen that much of Alec other than discussing Jace’s love life, so we’ll see. And I already love Isabelle, as soon as I saw her shove that guy, I was like hell yeah, Isabelle is going to be awesome in this, and the actress is actually dead on what I thought Isabelle was going to look like.

From what I’ve seen from that one MTV behind the scenes of City of Bones, Magnus is awesome, again not what I pictured, but who gives a damn. I really don’t care, as long as they can act like the character, and all the hair colours and ages are right, I should be content. I mean, we all saw what happened in the first Percy Jackson movie (oh I should probably review that trailer…)

We’ve seen like one glance of Luke, so I can’t judge, and Jocelyn is good, from what I’ve seen.

Also, side note, that shot we see for like a second of Clary surrounded by the… (crap it has been a really long time since I read a Mortal Instruments book)… symbols – Yeah, go on, tell me I’m a terrible person I know – that shot is really cool. Iratze? No idea.

All the sets and costumes seem perfect so far, and I do like this entire tone they have for the movie, even if I still haven’t heard Jace crack a single joke yet. Hopefully they’re saving it for the full movie, I don’t know if I can take an entire movie of just Angsty Jace.

So yeah, I need to publish this so I can go do something productive.

I did not realise how excited I am for this movie until now.

Also, I wish they hadn’t used so much of the same footage as they did from the teaser, so we could have seen more

I feel like I need to get a twitter just so I can stalk Cassandra Clare because I just found out that this happened as well:

New poster!

Still not as cool as the first one, but you know, it’s cool and stuff and wow Jace has gold eyes I feel like that should mean something to me but I really can’t remember anything from the books. I do like how this one kind of mimics the City of Bones book cover (oh god they won’t release movie covers for the books will they? Though, I might be ok with that for this particular adaptation seeing as the posters are really pretty).

City of Bones – Teaser Trailer

THERE’S A TRAILER THERE’S A TRAILER OH MY GOD

Well there’s been a lot of movie news lately. So here’s even more.

Watch it here!

Thoughts

I still find it weird that the shadowhunters talk with English accents after imagining them for three years to sound american.

Jamie Campbell Bower also does not seem very Jace-y to me. No idea why not, still trying to pinpoint it. Probably because in this teaser trailer he seems more like teen-angst Jace in the last books, than sarcastic, joking Jace from the first few. You know, before it got complicated. This may be because it’s only a teaser, though.

Lily Collins, you are an awesome Clary. Thank you for being awesome.

Not much else to say apart from that. Though they were using the music from the Sunshine shoundtrack. Specifically “The Surface of the Sun”, which is a song I would never associate with shadowhunters,  but it still worked.

Now there are so many book-to-movie adaptations that I need to watch! Beautiful Creatures, The Host, City of Bones… And The Hobbit is coming out so soon!

City of Bones – Poster

I HAVE NO IDEA WHETHER THIS IS REAL OR NOT.

I am 95% sure this is real.

But if this is fanart, it is GORGEOUS.

Anyway…

HOLY WAFFLES IS THIS BEAUTIFUL!

THE INSTITUTE AND THE REFLECTION AND THE LOGO AND THE COLOUR SCHEME AND UGH IT’S SO PRETTY!

And there’s a trailer coming out soon!

I cannot wait for this movie!

Clockwork Princess (Cover) – Cassandra Clare

All this Mortal Instrument news just keeps on coming out.

So, look what we have here.

A flipping gorgeous cover.

So, obviously this is Tessa, who is for some reason smouldering into the camera. But I don’t care, because the entire cover is really really pretty. All of the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices books have really nice covers. And there’s a glow coming from her book, which Cassandra Clare did say was the Codex. And they’ve got some of the london buildings in the background. The dress is also gorgeous, and of course she has the clockwork angel around her neck.

Guys, why does this book have to be so pretty?

I am going to read it, though I didn’t enjoy the first two as much as I thought I did, Cassandra Clare is a really talented writer, and her books are always so action packed with great dialogue and humour.

So, what do you guys think?

Tell me! I have absolutely no predictions for this last book, as she always surprises me, except that Will and Tessa will end up together (hopefully). Jem is nice and all, but Will is obviously made for Tessa.

Clockwork Prince – Cassandra Clare

I would do a review on Clockwork Angel, but I’ve got to be honest. I read that last year, I can’t remember much, but just to start this review off, here’s a mini review. A meview, if you like (actually, no, don’t call it that. That’s a terrible name).

Clockwork Angel
Plot – good
Characters – Exactly like the Mortal Instrument characters, but more annoying.
Writing style – Old timey, but ok.
Overall – 3 Shuriken Stars.

So those were my initial thoughts going into this book. And what did I think?

Eh, it was pretty good. Definitely better than the first one, but still not amazing.

So, let’s summarise this thing, and if you don’t understand what the hell I’m talking about, then oh well. You should probably read the first book.

Summary
So, Benedict Lightwood is being annoying as always, and because of him Charlotte has to go find out all this evil stuff that I can’t really remember, otherwise she’ll lose the institute. And then the whole Will-Tessa-Jem love triangle (which let’s be honest. In the first book was WillxTessa and Jem being nice), being all complicated and annoying. But in a good way. Plus, we find out Will’s secret and a bunch of other stuff I also can’t remember. Wow, this isn’t starting out to be a great review, is it?

Cons
I don’t really know how to…. Urgh. I don’t know how to do the cons, because Cassandra Clare has me really torn. Ok, let’s see what we can do.

How do I…

OK, let’s put it this way. What I hated about the first book was that the characters were so alike the characters from the Mortal Instruments. Please tell me you saw this too. Because:

Will = Jace (yes, I know their related. That still gives her no excuse to make them exactly the same person. Not with the same backstory and stuff, but with the exact same humour and personality and getting the girl and being amazingly beautiful like an angel…)

Tessa = Clary (Except Tessa likes books. Clary likes drawing. And Tessa talks all ‘Olde English’ and seems more intelligent in my eyes. All her choices seem so much smarter and logical.)

Jem = Alek, but less gay, and more annoying. I’m sorry if you like Jem, I don’t really. I find the way he likes Tessa really annoying, though it’s probably just  me being heartless and cynical. Sorry.

Jessamine = Isabelle, but again more annoying. Whereas Isabelle was likeable, Jessamine is just downright snobby and annoying.

But you know what, I think Cassandra Clare kind of improved on this in this book. Kinda. I found them slightly more different to their original characters. I liked Jessamine more. I liked Jem less. I loved Will for a few chapters, found him really angsty and annoying in others, even though I now understand why. Wait a second, this really doesn’t sound like a Con anymore, does it. But it’s certainly not a Pro. Oh, whatever, let’s just keep it here.

Oh yeah, I have a legitimate Con now. Charlotte and Henry’s conversation at the end.

God.

It was so cheesy. And I mean really cheesy. The book was really good, I felt, then suddenly that conversation with bland dialogue and it’s cheesiness. I don’t know why it annoyed me so much, but it really did. Especially when Cassandra Clare could have done it so much better. She’s a great writer, and I was so surprised at that part.

Pros

Plot = pretty good.

Character developement = pretty good.

Amount Magnus Bane was in the book (he’s one of my favourite parts of the Infernal Devices series) = pretty good.

Dialogue = Awesome. But that’s one of the things I love about Cassandra Clare. Her dialogue is always funny and sarcastic and awesome.

Also, that ending. Oh, geez. That ending.

Ok. MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT HERE. MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT. SKIP TO THE END WITH ALL THE QUOTES AND STUFF. SPOILER-O ALERT-O. L’ALERT DE SPOILERS. (my amazing Spanish and French skills right there)

You know the end, did anyone else want to punch Jem in the face? I mean, I understand what he’s going through and so on, but right at the moment, I wanted to hit him. So bad. You know, the bit after Will’s proclaimed his love for Tessa and he knows that they can’t be together because of Jem and he’s basically like:

Jem: I know why you put your life on the line to save Tessa and risked dying and got all that stuff in your back and made it a bloody mess just for this girl.
Will: you do? 😀
Jem: Yeah, it’s because you know HOW IN LOVE ME AND TESSA ARE! AND WE’RE GONNA GET MARRIED AND STUFF!
Will: Oh… Yeah… Totally… 😦
Jem: Parabatai HIGH FIVE!

(That may have been slightly out of context and exxagerated, but that was basically the point. Jem ripped out Will’s hope and threw it on the floor, and Will just had to smile and nod.)

END OF SPOILER. FIN DE LA SPOILERS. NO MORE SPOILERS. NO SPOILERS. KEEP READING. READ MOI. IT’S SAFE NOW THERE ARE NO MORE SPOILERS.

Quotes:

  • “Ah,” said a voice from the doorway, “having your annual ‘everyone thinks Will is a lunatic’ meeting, are you?
“It’s biannual,” said Jem. “And no, this is not that meeting.”
  • “Reparations,” said Jem very suddenly, setting down the pen he was holding.
Will looked at him in puzzlement. “Is this a game? We just blurt out whatever word comes next to mind? In that case mine is ‘genuphobia’. It means an unreasonable fear of knees.”
“What’s the word for a perfectly reasonable fear of annoying idiots?” inquired Jessamine.”
  • “If you do not help me,” Tessa said to Jem, “I swear, I will change into you, and I will lift him myself. And then everyone here will see what you look like in a dress.” She fixed him with a look. “Do you understand?”
  • “Oh, leave it,” said Jem, kicking Will, not without affection, lightly on the ankle.
    “She’s annexed my plan!”
“Will,” Tessa said firmly. “Do you care more about the plan being enacted or about getting credit for it?”
Will pointed a finger at her.
“That,” he said. “The second one.”
  •  “Patriotic?” Will looked smug. “I’ll tell you what’s patriotic,” he said. “In honor of my birthplace, I’ve the dragon of Wales tattooed on my—”

Overall
3 1/2 shuriken stars. Read it if you want to. Don’t read it if you don’t. Also, if you have read it, tell me if I’m the only one who is worried and torn about Cassandra Clare making this a 12 book series. Because she seems to be dragging this out so much. But maybe it’ll be awesome. But maybe it’ll be unnecessary and boring. I might do a post on my thoughts on this. I might not. Who knows.
