2013 Wrap-Up

I really didn’t read that much in 2013. Sure, I hit my goodreads reading challenge for the year, but that was mainly due to half of my entries being manga or short stories.

But I read enough books to find some absolutely brilliant stories. It was hard to cut this list down to only five, and I could do the whole “top 13 of 2013”, but I’m not sure if I even have thirteen books that I absolutely loved. So five it is.

1. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath –  As soon as I finished the book, I went back and re-read it; memorised quotes from it; thought about it for days. If that’s not a sign of a good book, I don’t know what is.

2. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater – A realistic, vivid fantasy with gorgeous writing. And yes, I did re-read this one. Twice.

3. Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake – I have never been so emotionally affected by a book. Theseus Cassio Lockwood, why do you do this to me?

4. Fighting Ruben Wolfe by Markus Zusak – It was gritty and beautiful and made me tear up half a dozen times. I should expect nothing less from Markus Zusak.

5. Champion by Marie Lu – The final books in dystopians almost always disappoint. Champion, however, was thrilling, exciting, emotional, and above all, realistic. A brilliant conclusion to a brillant series.

We hope you’ve had an amazing year, read some great books, and we look forward to seeing you in 2014 for even more reading adventures!

2013

So since we did a 2012 list of books that we read, it’s only really fair for 2013 to do a 2013 books that we are looking forwards to list. 😛
So without further ado (I feel so weird using that word!):

The Kill Order (Maze Runner, #0.5)The Kill Order – James Dashner (7th January – Paperback Edition)
It’s so annoying that I’ve had to wait this long. First I had to wait for the UK published one and now for the paperback one, to match my  other books :P. But I’m really worried because I’ve read plenty on reviews that say it’s disappointing.

Prodigy (Legend, #2)Prodigy- Marie Lu (29th January)
What is there to say about it? Well, other than how amazing it will be (no choice there) and how I literally cannot wait!

The Prey (The Hunt, #2)The Prey- Andrew Fukuda (31st January)
All good books seem to come out in the same time frame. I just really hope this won’t be a disappointment; the cover is already looking that way to me. ie It’s beginning to look like a chick-flick rather than a Freaking Vampire book.
*sigh*. Well I guess “Don’t judge a book by its cover”…

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)Scarlet – Marissa Meyer (7th February)
LOVE THE COVER. I’m really looking forward to seeing where this one goes, especially since it’s based on Red Riding Hood (awesome idea, btw). So many good books coming out this year!!!

Girl of Nightmares (Anna, #2)Girl of Nightmares – Kendare Blake (7th March)
WHY IS THIS NOT OUT YET WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY (I know it’s out in the USA already, but the UK get it late :()

Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3)Clockwork Princess – Cassandra Clare (19th March)
I’m actually really curious to see who gets Tessa, Will or Jem, or maybe she’ll die and neither can have her. And why is she a warlock changing thing? And why do we see her in City of Glass? So many questions. Again, a gorgeous cover.

The Crane WifeThe Crane Wife – Patrick Ness (28th March)
It’s going to be amazing. It’s a freaking Patrick Ness book. No other explanation for it.

Light (Gone, #6)Light- Michael Grant (2nd April)
THE LAST EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER GONE BOOK.
WHY CAN’T IT COME OUT SOONER?
Ugh. It’s going to have to answer so many questions.

Shades of Earth (Across the Universe, #3)Shades of Earth – Beth Revis (2nd May)
Admittedly, I still have not gotten around to reading A Million Suns, but I will! I love the title, and though I have no idea what it means, it sounds cool!

Last Stand of Dead Men (Skulduggery Pleasant, #8)

Skulduggery Pleasant: Last Stand of Dead Men – Derek Landy (29th August)
COME OUT SOONER PLEASE COME OUT SOONER PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
OH MY GOD PLEASE I BEG OF YOU PLEASE PLEASE I BEG I AM ON MY KNEES NOT LITERALLY BUT YOU KNOW MENTALLY PLEASE.

Fire and Ash- Jonathan Maberry (26th September)
ZOMBIES ZOMBIES ZOMBIES
I FREAKING LOVE ZOMBIES.
So… it’s the last book about Benny Imura. And there’s so much to be done. And it’s definitely going to rip my heart out since it’s pretty much definite that other characters will die. 😥

Allegiant (Divergent, #3)

Allegiant – Veronica Roth (26th September)
With that cliffhanger? Veronica Roth is cruel.

More Than This

More Than This – Patrick Ness (Some Point in September)
Patrick Ness is a writing God.
I’m just so excited that there’s going to be another YA novel. Chaos walking was AMAZING and I know this won’t disappoint.

BZRK Reloaded (BZRK, #2)

BZRK Reloaded – Michael Grant (8th October)
To be honest I can’t remember much about BZRK, but like all good books, I’ll be here waiting for this book to turn up, good or bad (but hopefully good). 😛

The House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus, #4)

The House of Hades – Rick Riordan (8th October)
Percy Jackson books are awesome.
WHY CAN’T THIS COME OUT SOONER? After that last ending? Why must Rick Riordan torture us like this?!

UnSouled (Unwind, #3)

UnSouled- Neal Shusterman (24th October)
I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE I’M TOO OVERCOME BY THE FEELINGS. PLEASE COME OUT SOONER PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. I love the title, by the way, it’s awesome. I am simultaneously excited for it, and dreading the possible horrible, heartwrenching ending.
