The Scorch Trials- James Dashner

The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner, #2)THIS BOOK IS PURE AWESOMENESS!
I cannot express using words how amazing it it!!!
jlhfawhdefukahw kjvfh <– that is how I would say how amazing it is in jibberish… although that isn’t a language… 😀
For those of you who have read the Maze Runner and are looking around at review for the second in the series, here is a small bit of information, that when I was waiting for the book was killing me! You hear more about the other group!!! (but I’m going have to just leave it at that!)
Anyway… This book is the second book in the maze runner trilogy by James Dashner and if you haven’t read the first book then read it!!! because this review will probably contain spoilers for the Maze Runner! The first book of course, is called the Maze Runner, and the last book is called the Death Cure (I wonder why?(!))! 😀 There is also a prequel coming out soon! (if you count about three months as soon… 😦 )

So… Thomas and “the gang” (lol… it’s my chav talk!) have to travel through the scorch, (hint the title), because WICKED IS EVIL… and they are making them do loads of trials… So… they have to travel through the Scorch, which is a wasteland, to get to the “Safe Haven” where they will find the cure to the flare… BUT if they don’t get there in time… THEY WILL TURN INTO CRANKS AND DIE!!!! BUT WICKED has set up some factors for them, that will make it harder for them…, both emotionally and physically…

It kinda rambles a bit…
At some times in the book, I felt that the author just wrote and didn’t really have an idea of what was going to happen… (but don’t get me wrong, sometimes the best books are written that way!), but it is still an AMAZING BOOK!!!

No other cons!

The fast pace
It was just so thrilling and amazing, and it literally made my heart race… <– I’m not even exaggerating… My heart was literally thumping like mad!!!

As you can tell from the title, I couldn’t put this book down for a second! And as soon as I finishing that book I ran up and down the house… in frustration that the next book hadn’t come out yet!!! But everything’s OK, now, as I have read that book… Also, another point! You can read this book over and over again without getting bored! As I read this book just before the Death Cure came out!, and it was still un-put-down-able!

The Enemy
It’s quite hard to explain…………
There are a lot of “enemies” who try to obstruct the characters from their goal. The reasons why they are in the Pros section is that they were just developed so well, and it was so complex, but it didn’t feel like it… So, the enemies… My definition for an enemy for this book is someone who tries to stop someone from getting to their goal, or from getting what they want. As there are so many character, and they all have different desires, so based on my definition, they all have different enemies! Like the Cranks could be considered the enemy, or WICKED, or the other group, or “the witch”, etc.

Favourite Quotes

  • “Anybody else wanna pee their pants and cry for mommy?” (sarcasm, btw)
  • “…You’d think the little part about them supposedly killing us would be the attention getter.”
  • “I think we should take a break, fill our little tummies and drink up.”
  • Pop, pop, pop.” <– You’ll understand once you have read the book!
  • “And you forgive that witch?” So sad… 😦 because I agreed with “the witch” and I though that she was right….

As you can tell from the pros, this is a truly unique book. IT’s AWESOME!!! 😀 So therefore, it is easily 5 shuriken stars! I would definitely recommend you to read this book! (but only after the Maze Runner! <– which is also an AMAZING book!)

Prodigy (cover)- Marie Lu

Prodigy (Legend, #2)IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!!, Perhaps even better than Legend!!! Perhaps…
This book is scheduled to be released next year, on January 29th… and I CANNOT WAIT…  I wish it would just hurry up and be out!!! Legend was such a good book!!!

Summary (from Goodreads<– one of the best book websites!)
The Elector Primo of the Republic has died, with his son assuming power over what’s left of the USA’s West Coast as it teeters on full-blown chaos. June and Day join up with Patriot rebels so they can rescue Day’s brother and head east for the Colonies. In order to help, though, the rebels want June and Day to kill the new Elector, who may pose an even greater threat than his father.

The rest of this review is probably going to be me rambling…
As I said before… I LOVE THIS COVER!!! To me, it seems more of a “Day” cover, in contrast to Legend which was more of a “June” cover… As in, the cover of Legend, is very straight and elegant, and the cover of Prodigy is still elegant, but in a different way; it seems more rebellious, with the spray paint, and more like street- life sort of thing… (Do you understand what I’m trying to get at?)
I also love how this cover also looks really similar to Legend:
Legend (Legend, #1) Prodigy (Legend, #2)
Do you kinda see what I mean? It has the same sort of layout, but completely different styles! If I saw this in a book shop I would totally see how they are written by the same author and in the same series, without looking at the tiny writing!

So, my predictions!:
I think Day will find is brother (Hopefully not too late…)
He and June will make some new friends, of whom, someone will die… (I’m saying that not because I’m a negative person(!), but because it is a YA novel…, and so many people die in those types of YA Dystopia type books…).
Tess will join Day and June again (at least, this is what I’m hoping to happen!)
Either Day or June will get arrested…

So… anyway, those are my predictions, so if the book comes out, and I’m right, I can say “I told you so!”, but I won’t… 😀 because I don’t like saying that phrase… So, if you guys out there, have any predictions, feel free to leave a comment!
Only 8 months!, I just realised… that sounds ages… 😦

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson)- Rick Riordan

If ANYBODY tells you this is a kids book, DON’T LISTEN TO THEM! Although, it may be true… (but I will NEVER accept that…) Sorry for all the caps… I get a little touchy on this subject… Anyway, going back to the subject. If you are one of those people who have not read this book because your friends/ families/ the internet says that it is a kids book, you have missed out on a lot! Don’t listen to them! Don’t give into peer pressure! If it is a “kids” book, then in my opinion, anyway, it isn’t written in a kids way, it has much more sophisticated writing and the font size of the book is actually YA size! And even if it is a kids book… it doesn’t mean that people who are older, can’t read them… The plot is also AMAZING! And so are the characters; they are teenagers, ok?, so doesn’t that kinda classify the book as a kinda YA novel? (well… that is good enough for me… :D). Also, according to goodreads (one of the best book websites! <– definitely recommended, if you are a big fan of reading!), on the side panel, it’s genre is YA (OK, so I’m avoiding the fact that it also says childrens… but still…!!! :D) SO if anyone ever says that it is a kids book to you STOP THEM RIGHT THERE! OK. I think my ranting is almost over… 😀

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)So… now that my rant is over… I can properly introduce this book! This is the first book in the Percy Jackson, series, who is the main character! (hint that the series is named after him!), by Rick Riordan. It is the first book of five, and it links to another series, called the Heroes of Olympus! (which is definitely, hopefully, a YA novel!).

PERCY JACKSON IS A DEMIGOD. For those of you who don’t know what a demigod is; it means that the child has one mortal parent and one god parent! At the beginning of the book he finds out that he is a demigod… he finds this out by being chased by weird monsters! fun(!) 😀 Eventually he gets to camp, because of this amazing, one of the best characters in the world, a satyr (note. NOT FAUN, as it is Roman, I think… :D)! When Percy gets to camp, he finds himself accused of stealing Lord Zeus’ favourite weapon, the Lightning Bolt!!! He has ten days to find it, OR a huge war will happen between the gods… , as Percy’s father, is not happy that Zeus is accusing his son…

It can be for any age
Although I refuse to believe that it is a “kids” book, (… because if the book is classified as a “kids” book it means that a lot of people won’t read it because of that)… Sorry… I think I’m ranting again… 😀 OK. I think that this book can be for anyone, kids, teenagers, adults, the elderly, ANYONE! (I may be contradicting myself… , but by my main point about the “kids”, I mean that I just don’t like it classified as a “kids” book, I don’t mean that kids shouldn’t read it…) 😀

The Plot
It was just so original and the writing style was flawless! It was just so full of humour, but the writer knew when to put in serious notes, it was just done PERFECTLY!

The Concept
It’s AMAZING! The idea is just so original!, and I know that this will sound really cliché…  but it really did bring “Greek history to life”! This is how I do well in my Latin lessons… :D, Seriously… This is how I know almost all of the Greek Gods and myths… 😀 It also seemed so real! During the book I was so caught up in it… I was literally waiting for my God’s sign to appear! (Is that weird?) 😀

The Heros
They were just so likeable! Even the evil girl, Clarisse! She was just so funny… :D, They were just so 3D! Amazing!

Favourite Quotes

  • “If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself”
  • “Deadlines just aren’t real to me until I’m staring one in the face” <– So true… 😀
  • “How did you die?”
    “We er….drowned in a bathtub.”
    “All three of you?”
    “It was a big bathtub”
  • “She’d also called me brave…unless she was talking to the catfish”
  • “Grover didn’t say anything for awhile. Then, when I thought he was going to give me some deep philosophical comment to make me feel better, he said, “Can I have your apple?”
  • “I said hello to the poodle”

Remember the main message from this review: THIS BOOK ISN’T JUST FOR KIDS! AND IT CAN NEVER BE CLASSIFIED AS A “KIDS” BOOK (because that means that it can only be for kids…). So, if you read this review, and didn’t just skip to the end (like what I do with books :D), you can probably tell that this is a 5 shuriken star book! I would seriously recommend this book!

Ender’s Game- Orson Scott Card

Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1)I was pleasantly surprised after reading this book! It was really really good!!! This is the first book in a really long series by Orson Scott Card. However, as I thought the ending was ended really well on this book, I’m not sure if I’m going to read the others…, but I’ll probably give the second a chance… As on goodreads, their ratings aren’t nearly as high Ender’s Game. Anyway, this book is really really good, as I mentioned above… The author wrote it in a really interesting way, which just kept me hooked, but not obsessed! Just to let you know, I think this is classified as Adult Fiction, compared to the usual Young Adult Fiction, that we usually review! But I would recommend this book to ANYONE!!! (except, maybe, little kids…) 😀

Either I’m in a good mood today, or this book has no cons!

The writing style
OMG. THE WRITING STYLE IS AMAZING!!! But I won’t say anything else in this paragraph, because I will mention it lower down! But… It was just so sophisticated and elegant! JUST AMAZING! Nothing quite like it!

The characters
I loved how we saw so many different sides to the different characters! But sometimes I did find it a little confusing, about what the character was actually like (such as Peter; I didn’t understand whether he was actually good or bad… because he gave that evil speech at the beginning about how he was going to kill Ender and maybe Valentine… but then later that day, he whispered to Ender that he loved him… So it confused me a bit…, but it was good, because in general, people are confusing… and it just made him seem like more of a 3D character). I loved how Peter contrasted Valentine, and how Ender was just in the middle! They were just all so different, but at the same time, so similar to each other! They all longed for power and control, but they had different methods at getting to it.
Ender: He deserves his own little paragraph! He was just such a three dimensional character! There were so many sides of him, and new ones kept appearing. He is just awesome! It’s hard to imagine that he is actually a kid, just like you and me, when he is like another race.

The set-out of the chapters
I loved the how Orson Scott Card set out the chapters!!! In the first part, it was written about the teachers and what they are saying and feeling, and as “there is no teacher but the enemy” they kept giving hints about what was to come, later in the chapter! After that part, comes the main part; e.g. About Ender, or Valentine, etc.

The villain
If you have read this book, you might be wondering, who is this reviewer writing about? Well, as I believe that the buggers aren’t the read villain, I think that the real bad guys were the teachers… They were just so sly… and so evil… Even the good teacher was evil… 😦 Although he actually cared about Ender, he still let those things happen to him, which almost makes it worse… because he knows that it is wrong… but he doesn’t try to stop it from happening. I just think that those teachers are written so well! and that it was subtle, that there was actually no enemy or villain, and that the reader could choose for himself/ herself who he/she believed the villain was!

The concept/ The plot
It was a really good concept. I was surprised that I haven’t read a book like that before. Just to let you know, the concept that I liked is that it is the kids who are really in control! and that they aren’t normal kids; they are really exceptional!

Favourite Quotes (there are a lot!)

  • “Perhaps it’s impossible to wear an identity without becoming what you pretend to be.”
  • “An enemy, Ender Wiggin,” whispered the old man. “I am your enemy, the first one you’ve ever had who was smarter than you. There is no teacher but the enemy. No one but the enemy will tell you what the enemy is going to do. No one but the enemy will ever teach you how to destroy and conquer. Only the enemy shows you where you are weak. Only the enemy tells you where he is strong. And the rules of the game are what you can do to him and what you can stop him from doing to you. I am your enemy from now on. From now on I am your teacher.” (I love this quote!, because I think that it does have elements of the truth in it!)
  • “I’ve lived to long with pain. I won’t know who I am without it”
  • “I’m putting you in Dink Meeker’s toon. From now on, as far as you’re concerned, Dink Meeker is God.”
    “Then who are you?”
“The personal officer who hired God.”
  • “If you try and lose then it isn’t your fault. But if you don’t try and we lose, then it’s all your fault.”
  • “Be proud, Bonito, pretty boy. You can go home and tell your father, Yes, I beat up Ender Wiggin, who was barely ten years old, and I was thirteen. And I had only six of my friends to help me, and somehow we managed to defeat him, even though he was naked and wet and alone–Ender Wiggin is so dangerous and terrifying it was all we could do not to bring two hundred.”
  • “Peter, you’re twelve years old. I’m ten. They have a word for people our age. They call us children and they treat us like mice.”

If you are one of those people who skip to the end of a book or review, just to read the last few lines said this next sentence is a summary about how this review went: OMG! IT’S AMAZING! The writing style is FANTASTIC!, etc. You get the picture! So how can I write a review that positive, and not give the book 5 shurikin stars? The answer is that I can’t! 5 SHURIKIN STARS!!! No doubt about it! I would highly recommend this book, and I will let you know my thoughts after I have read the second!

The New World- Patrick Ness

The New World (Chaos Walking, #0.5)Because this is a short story this is going to be a short review! (I feel like such a rebel, starting a sentence with because! :D). This book is the short story prequel to the chaos walking series, by Patrick Ness (which if you haven’t read my review for those books THEY ARE AMAZING!!!! THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!!)
OK. My rant is over! Actually… maybe not quite… I will probably ramble a bit over this review! To be completely honest, I’m really not sure how I’m going to write this review… so again, I’ll probably ramble… I think I’m rambling now…
Anyway, as I said, this book is the prequel to the Knife of Never Letting Go and that series, it is a really short story, and I think, it can be found on Patrick Ness’ website!- I’ll put in a link at the end of this review! I personally would recommend you to read this book after reading the Knife of Never Letting Go, as after you have read that book, you kinda get a bond with the characters, so the book just seems so much better, and so much more heart- wrenching… 😦

This short story is about Viola, in the scout ship and the settler ship… It basically tells her story from her departure from the settler ship to when she crashlands! (This is probably why you need to read the Knife of Never Letting Go first, otherwise you will have no idea who these people are…). It focuses on her and her parents and also a little on her settler life; including Bradley!!! (HE IS AWESOME!!!). And as you know… the scout ship crashes… so her parents die 😦 and it is just so sad!!!, because of the way Viola treated them, just before they died… But anyway, I’ll let you find the rest out for yourselves!

Favourite Quotes!

  • “‘Fire,’ he said. ‘The ability to make fire at will. It allowed us light to see in the darkness, warmth against the cold, a tool to cook our food.’ He gestured vaguely in the direction of the Delta’s engines. ‘Fire is what eventually led to travel across the black beyond, the ability to
start a new life on a New World.’”
  • “Hope. That’s all anyone ever talked about on the convoy, especially as we got closer. Hope, hope, hope.”
  • “‘I’ll take it,’ I say. ‘I’ll take your hope. I’ve got it, okay? Mum?’
But I don’t know if she hears me-
Because her hand isn’t gripping back any more.”
  • “Start it to give a light against the darkness”
  • “And so I sit in front of Bradley’s fire, on the surface of a dark, dark planet, and I have their hope, if not any of mine.Except the hope that it’ll be enough.”
What can I say? Only to read this book and this series; because IT IS AMAZING!!! YOU WON’T REGRET IT!!! AMAZING!!! If you still need to ask; 5 shuriken stars! I would however, recommend you to read this short story after you have read the Knife of Never Letting Go, as it may not make too much sense otherwise… but it doesn’t matter too much whether you read this book after or before the other books in the series! You just need to read this book sometime in your life; or YOUR LIFE WILL NEVER BE COMPLETE! 😀
